Top teams came together on the first day of the Ratu Sukuna Day Volleyball Tournament at the Delainavesi Volleyball Court yesterday.
The tournament, which is being held for the first time in the Delainavesi community, has attracted a total of 12 men’s teams and 5 women’s teams.
The tournament organiser, Biu Tadranu, expressed that the aim of the event is to showcase youth talent, provide a platform for sports development, and address social issues like substance abuse and crime in the community.
This tournament holds a special significance for the Delainavesi youth community as it marks the first time they have access to a community volleyball court in years.
“Putting this venue means a lot of this youths, as they can just come and easily play just across their house and neighbourhood,” said Tadranu.
“Our vision is to get a tournament to the community let them to enjoy, also get the bigger teams to come and play here, we have three community teams, so it’s a great exposer for them and to show their talent.”
With the participation of top teams such as USP, Magics, Rebels, and Army, who have previously triumphed in tournaments like the one in Namaka Nadi, the competition promises to be intense this year.
The community has shown great support by attending the games and enjoying the food stalls set up for the event.
Tadranu expressed his gratitude towards the Delainavesi Youth community, the Lami town council, and the Lami Police Station for their understanding and support of the tournament’s vision.
