PAPUA New Guinea Kumuls were on top of their performance when they beat the Vodafone Fiji Bati side 10-0 in the Rugby League Pacific Tri-Nations clash last night.
Captain David Mead led by example scoring their first try and the conversion from Rhys Martin was unsuccessful as they lead 4-0.
Fiji Bati player Hendry Raiwalui had the spectators cheering with his footwork meters away from the try line after which he decided to pass it to Kelevi Komaisavou which failed.
Fiji had a lot of opportunity to score but failed to stick to the game plan.
The Kumuls were quick and strong with their defence stopping the Fijian boys when they tried to cross the tryline.
Luke Page scored the second try for PNG and Ase Boas extended their lead with a successful conversion. The Kumuls were electrifying in the last minutes of the game with their magical footwork that got the Bati boys confused.
Mead said ‘they didn’t start to well and he thought the boys defended really well.
“We held them out and we were happy with the result.”
They lost their second game against Australian Kangaroos 20-4 with the only try from Wartovo Puara junior.
“The game against the defending world champions was a good testing ground for us we had some mistreat they went through and scored a couple of tries and knowing them you give them an opportunity they will take it.
“Get the boys recovered and we can’t wait to go home and see our families before we get back to camp and prepare ourselves physically and mentally.
“We’re going to take one game at a time and hopefully we get some good performances.
