Top finish for Bua in Suva games

LOCATED in the heart of Bua, Ratu Luke Primary School from Wainunu could not be prouder of their recent gold medal feat at the national FMF Chow Games in Suva.

Marina Bale Turner scooped the gold medal in the U14 Girls 1500m race.

Bua compromised of 27 athletes from Ratu Luke and facing bigger schools from Viti Levu failed to deter them from their best.

Head coach Viliame Masianini said the team had dedicated athletes who were willing to return to Wainunu with a gold medal.

“But we came back with more medals than anticipated and we were so proud because there was only few of us representing the school as part of the Bua squad,” he said.

“And we returned with four medals. The support from our parents and the people of Bua also contributed to our successful achievement.

“We kept reminding our athletes that they were there for a purpose and we should make the people of Bua proud of our achievements.”

Masianini said when the team was in Suva, the people of Bua living and working in the capital visited the team.

“It was encouraging and that boosted the morale of our athletes not only from Ratu Luke but the Bua team too,” he said.

“The best part of this game was having our parents travel with us to Suva and they paid their own tickets to cook for the athletes at our camp.

“And I believe because of the support from our parents, we did very well. We plan to grab more medals next year.”
