Top chefs gear up for festival

GUESTS at the International Food Festival organised by the Fiji National University this weekend will get the chance to witness fine dining thanks to some of the country’s top chefs.

The team of chefs will be led by Mana Island Resort and Spa executive chef Lance Seeto, as well as executive chefs from hotels and resorts in the West.

Festival organiser Aqela Cakobau said each celebrity chef would cook to a different theme.

“Tickets to the fine dining dinners are $40 and selling fast.

“By inviting the foreign countries to join, the festival will intensify interaction between food professionals and people in a cultural exchange environment.

“Visitors can learn to polish their culinary skills and pick up tips from well-known chefs who will be sharing their secrets live on stage,” Ms Cakobau said of the event.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Embassy will also present a futomaki-making demonstration.

Futomaki is a sushi roll made with lettuce, cucumber, carrot, fried egg, seaweed, chicken or tuna.

A Japanese chef is expected to demonstrate the culinary skill at FNU’s Namaka campus this Sunday from 12 midday.
