THREE Fiji Open records were broken by national swimmer David Young at the TYR Fort Lauderdale Pro Series in Florida, USA.

Young, nicknamed Tolu, set a new 100 metres freestyle record of 49.98s, breaking the one set by Carl Probert at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

In the 50m butterfly event, he set a new national record of 24.3s, breaking his Commonwealth Youth Games record of 24.47s.

He improved on that record with another in the B finals, setting a finishing time of 23.96s.

His third record was in the 50m freestyle event, where he achieved a personal best of 22.29s and broke the record he set at the 2024 Olympics of 22.71s.

He has also qualified for the World Aquatic Championships in Singapore in August since he achieved three B qualifying times.
