Tobacco firm goes renewable

The British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has signed a contract worth $1.2 million with Vision Energy Solutions (VES) for the delivery of a solar project that will help the tobacco company reduce its electricity usage and carbon emissions.

BAT Fiji general manager Sam Dormor said the solar project is the next goal in its sustainable agenda.

“More importantly, this partnership with Vision Energy Solutions will help us reduce our electricity usage by approximately 60 per cent and reduce our carbon emissions by approximately 32 per cent for our Nabua site,” Mr Domor said. “This aligns with our target to achieve 50 per cent of renewable energy and 50 per cent reduction in our carbon emissions by 2030.”

Vision Investments’ chief executive officer Sanjesh Prasad said its subsidiary Vision Energy Solutions was established six years ago to cater for the growing demand for renewable energy solutions in the country through solar.

“We are proud to have a talented local team that has grown from strength to strength by successfully delivering large-scale solar projects across the country,” Mr Prasad said.

“Our team of local experts manages everything in-house, from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, ensuring full after-sales support.

“Vision Energy Solutions is proud to partner with BAT Fiji to deliver this Solar Project.”

This signing will see solar panels installed at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi.

The installation of an 812kW power system that will generate a total of 880,000 kWh of electricity for the two sites annually.

The installation began last week and is expected to be completed by January next year.
