There are a lot of issues with Fiji Pine, says iTaukei Lands Trust Board general manager-estate services Isoa Tuwai.
Speaking to Ba landowners at the land issue consultations in the West where they raised concerns over plantations owned by the logging company, Mr Tuwai said TLTB was carrying out an investigation based on these concerns.
“We have a lot of issues with Fiji Pine like land boundaries, overplanting, land area and plantations on reserved land,” he said.
“We have a taskforce right now in Labasa that is looking into issues brought up by the landowners.
“We completed our visit to Bua, now they are in Macuata.”
Mr Tuwai said issues raised by Rara villagers in Nalotawa District would need to be investigated as well.
“When our taskforce is done on Vanua Levu, we will need to meet.
“We will have to come to the village to hear what you have.”
Mr Tuwai said their process of inquiry involved working with Fiji Pine.
“We will work with them.
“We will compare their records against our records.
“Then we do reconciliation, and our priority is to see where their areas reach and if there is pine in these areas.
“If there is none in areas outside of their boundaries, then we will work from there.”
Mr Tuwai said in the meantime the landowners must respect the areas that the company had worked in and not take any action until TLTB had conducted its inquiries.
