Timely gift for surgical team

A GENEROUS and timely gift by the Charity First Sydney Incorporated will support the work of an Indian cardiac surgical team who will be providing services free of charge in Fiji next month.

The gift consists of 20 infant warmers worth more than $A100,000 ($F157,023) and was facilitated through the General Electric Healthcare Company Incorporated, a US-based global company.

It was received by the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Jone Usamate.

“We are expecting an Indian cardiac surgical team which provides services free that will visit specifically for babies and children born with heart problems early next month, and this timely donation or warmers will support their work,” Mr Usamate said.

“Medical equipment is very costly and donation of such valuable items are always very encouraging.”

Mr Usamate said the warmers would benefit new born babies being born at the three divisional hospitals — CWM Hospital, Lautoka and Labasa.

Representing the General Electric Healthcare Company Incorporated were Fiji-born Suresh Goundar and Terri Walker.

They helped in the training of the hospital personnel in the use of the warmers.

Mr Usamate said this was critical in the proper use, maintenance and longevity of the equipment.

Members of the Charity First Sydney Incorporated and who were former Fiji residents include their president Ron Venkteshwar, Jaithoon Venkteshwar, Renu Sahu-Khan, Zakir Sahu-Kahn and Sean Bagga.
