A three-year-old child has become the country’s latest drowning victim.
Police said a report was received at the Nasinu Police Station yesterday morning after the child was reported missing from his home in Naibulivatu Settlement, Laqere.
Search efforts were immediately launched by family members and police officers.
The child’s body was later discovered floating in a river opposite the Wakanisila Settlement.
Police confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are now under investigation.
The national drowning toll currently stands at 27, compared to 45 for the same period last year.
