The judgment of three men charged with manslaughter over the death of a man following an alleged assault in Makoi, Nasinu, in 2023 has been adjourned to September 11.
Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu was scheduled to deliver judgment today in the case against Abdul Imran Feroz Mohammed, Israel Daniel Adonai and Jone Mataitoga, but the matter was moved to September 11.
The three men were charged alongside Daniel O’Brien Lal, who previously pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to six years and eight months’ imprisonment.
The remaining three accused are alleged to have held the victim, Zain Khaiyum, against his will and subjected him to repeated physical assaults at multiple locations in Makoi in 2023.
It is alleged that the men attacked Mr Khaiyum after a packet of illicit crystal substance that had previously been handed over to him went missing.
Mr Kaiyum was left in his undergarments and severely injured before police were alerted by a resident.
Mr Kaiyum was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and succumbed to his injuries on July 2, 2023.
The three accused remain remanded in custody.
