Three charged over death of six-year-old in Vatuwaqa

Three people have been produced at the Suva Magistrates Court charged in relation to the death of a six-year-old boy in Vatuwaqa.

The accused appeared in court yesterday facing charges stemming from an incident on May 2, 2023.

The first accused, a 38-year-old man, has been charged with one count of manslaughter arising from breach of duty. It is alleged he reversed a forklift and struck the victim, his son, resulting in the child’s death.

A second accused, a 48-year-old man, and a third accused, a 52-year-old woman, have each been charged with one count of corporate manslaughter. They are alleged to have allowed the first accused to operate the forklift despite knowing he was not licensed.

All three accused persons have been remanded in custody.

The matter has been adjourned and will be recalled in court today.
