AFTER twice enduring heartbreak of missing out on Commonwealth Games selection, Fiji lawn bowls representative Elizabeth Moceiwai has finally earned her place on one of sport’s biggest stages.
Moceiwai will compete in the singles event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, a moment that marks the reward of years of persistence, sacrifice, and unwavering belief.
For Moceiwai, the journey has not been easy.
Missing out on both the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games was a difficult setback, but instead of stepping away from the sport, she continued to train, attend trials, and push forward in pursuit on her dream.
“My biggest challenge was, I can still vividly recall, that the last two Commonwealth Games, 2018 and 2022, I missed out, but never gave up,” she said.
“I’m still coming; I’m still training and doing my trials. Still, to get to this time again. I think it’s God’s timing and this is my season.”
Now finally part of the Fiji contingent, Moceiwai said the feeling of selection is one of pride and gratitude.
“Actually, I’m feeling honoured and privileged to participate this time,” she said.
With Glasgow approaching, her focus remains on preparation and consistency as she looks to make the most of the opportunity.
“I am really doing my best and staying focused,” she said.
While representing Fiji is already a major achievement, Moceiwai has her sights on making an impact on the international stage.
Yes, to get a medal,” she said when asked about her goals.
Beyond competition, she hopes her journey inspires younger generations to take up lawn bowls, a sport she believes should not be defined by age.
Moceiwai also credited her faith for guiding her through her setbacks and helping her reach this milestone.
“I just want to thank God Almighty for this time, because without him, I wouldn’t have reached this far.”
After years of disappointment and determination, Moceiwai now steps onto the Commonwealth games stage with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to finally make her moment count.
