If the COVID-19 situation in Fiji prolongs, it will become harder for people to put food on the table.

Peanut seller Mukul Pravin Sharma, 50, of Wailea settlement, Vatuwaqa in Suva said life was very tough for his family. “There are a lot of struggles now,” said Mr Sharma.

“If the situation remains and businesses do not normalise, I am afraid we will have to sleep without eating.”

Mr Sharma said people should prepare for the worst.

“Judging by the situation right now, I do not think we will recover any time soon. “We have to start thinking now of what we to do if the situation does not improve.”

Mr Sharma said he earned between $50 to $70 a week and that was not enough for his family.

“My bean-peanut sales have dropped.

“People do not want to spend these days. I am afraid of what will happen to us if things don’t normalise soon.”
