Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has indicated that The People’s Alliance will need to stand independently as a multi-ethnic party come 2026.
In an interview with The Fiji Times’ “A Conversation with the Prime Minister,” Mr Rabuka said: “The People’s Alliance must prepare to stand alone as a multi-ethnic party.”
He further expressed his view that all political parties in Fiji are now multiracial, reflecting a shift in the country’s political dynamics.
When asked whether a coalition government was the most effective governance model for Fiji, Mr Rabuka stated: “I believe leading a country with a truly multiracial party is the most effective way.”
This is not the first time the Prime Minister has alluded to the future direction of The People’s Alliance as political parties begin preparations for next year’s election. In a prior interview, he affirmed that The People’s Alliance would continue to respect the independence of the parties currently within the Coalition.
