Swire Shipping Fijian Drua top points scorer Teti Tela has announced his retirement from first class rugby.

Tela returned from the 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign in France last month where he helped the FIJI Water Flying Fijians reach the quarter-finals for only the third time.

The Drua made the announcement yesterday of Tela’s decision to hang his boots after being with the franchise for the past two years.

Drua head coach Mick Byrne said the decision to step away from the team was not taken lightly, and the collective sentiment was one of deep respect for Tela’s commitment to family.

“He’s got a young family now, and he has made a courageous decision to look after his family,” Byrne said.

“When we saw his wife and young daughter that day, for me, it was a courageous decision he made.” With Tela leaving, the Drua also announced the arrival of five promising players into their 2024 squad.
