A break-in at the Adi Shakti Nav Durga Mata Mandir in Valelevu has left the temple community shaken after thieves allegedly forced their way into the premises and stole sound equipment valued at about $1,600.

Temple management said the incident occurred between midday and early evening at the mandir located at Lot 11 Kanace Rd, Valelevu.

According to a statement released by the management and congregation, the perpetrators gained access by breaking through interior walls, causing extensive structural damage to the sacred site.

The stolen items included the temple’s sound system, which is used during prayers, religious ceremonies and community gatherings.

Management described the incident as deeply distressing and said it was not the first time the mandir had been targeted.

“This is unfortunately the latest in a series of targeted incidents that our place of worship has had to endure,” the statement said.

Temple representatives expressed sadness over what they described as a violation of a peaceful community space and are now appealing to the public for assistance in identifying those responsible.

Members of the public who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area during the afternoon have been urged to come forward.

The temple is also requesting CCTV or dashcam footage from nearby homes, businesses or vehicles that may help investigators trace the suspects or recover the stolen equipment.

Management said community vigilance and support would be critical in helping bring those responsible to justice.
