THE team that will recommend a new national minimum wage rate will make a decision that is not biased towards anyone.

Team member and University of the South Pacific academic Dr Maureen Fatiaki told a public consultation in Rakiraki yesterday that they accepted there may be some smaller businesses and employees who were struggling to survive.

Rakiraki Town Council CEO Sailosi Sowane had said the council had limited income sources and they had found it difficult to adjust to the $4 per hour minimum wages.

Dr Fatiaki stated they realised it was “very competitive out there” and they needed employers such as the Rakiraki Town Council to fill in a questionnaire form.

“These questionnaires allow us to then enter the data and take into account your concerns and views,” Dr Fatiaki said.

“So, they will be factored in, and we will do these analyses. We will ensure that it’s not unfair towards those employers or employees.”
