Update: 3:00PM TEAM Fiji was welcomed by the chairman of the executive committee, Dayanch Gulgeldiyev, at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Gulgeldiyev said sports played a vital role in not only strengthening ties between countries but at the same time educating young athletes on good sportsmanship and healthy living.
“These kinds of sporting events are a good opportunity to prove that there are many talented athletes out there,” he said
“Their performances demonstrate the hard work that the athletes have put in and the AIMAG event is a perfect platform to showcase that.”
He added he was confident the competition would showcase quality performances by the athletes.
Fiji was welcomed by traditional Turkmen dances and fruits.
