A 39-year-old teacher has been charged in connection with the alleged abduction of a Year 10 student in Taveuni.
Police say the accused and the student had allegedly been communicating through Messenger about plans to be together. The communications were reportedly discovered by the teacher’s wife, who raised the matter with the school principal.
According to investigators, on the night of June 7, 2026, the teacher was found with the student inside his vehicle near her home. The incident was subsequently reported to Police, who launched an investigation.
Following inquiries, the teacher has been formally charged with one count of abduction.
He is expected to be produced at the Taveuni Magistrates Court today.
Police investigations into the matter have been concluded, with the case now before the courts.
