Tawai wants gold

NATIONAL rep Tevita Tawai is chasing his first gold medal when he competes for Fiji at the Pacific Games to be held at Papua New Guinea in July.

The Levuka lad hasn’t won any gold medal during the past five international tournaments he participated in.

And with only five months remaining for the Pacific meet, the 23-year-old is confident of working the hard yards in his effort to win his first gold medal.

Tawai said he started training last year and wanted to make the country proud at the meet.

He will be competing in the 77kg category.

“My aim is to win a gold medal for Fiji at the upcoming Pacific Games,” said Tawai.

“I have been training hard for the past six months and I am confident of a good outing at the meet.

“My aim is to better and hopefully win a medal for the country.”

Tawai said the experience of taking part at the South Pacific Mini Games, Commonwealth Games, Oceania Weightlifting Championship and Oceania Games in Suva would help him in his campaign.

“I had participated in five international competitions but failed to win any gold medal therefore I would do my best at the upcoming Pacific Games to fulfil my goal.”

Tuwai and his fellow Fiji reps have been training in Levuka with the aim to better their last meet’s game record.

“At the last pacific meet, we won 21 medals, 7 of which were gold medals so we are aiming to improve our record this year.”
