Take your rubbish with you, says a group of children who were appalled at the amount of rubbish left by members of the public at the beach in Pacific Harbour last Saturday.
The children, from Wainiveidio in Navua, had gone to the beach to enjoy the great outdoors, only to find a disturbing amount of trash left by picnickers and revellers.
This included empty bottles and cans of beer and spirits, discarded food trays, disposable cutlery, boxes, plastic wraps, bags and waste food.
“The rubbish was everywhere, it was so unsightly we decided to collect rubbish close to where we had set up because we did not have garbage bags,” said 14-year-old George Seeto.
His cousin Ezekiel Fong said it was unfortunate that irresponsible adults did not think about how their actions could ruin other people’s plans.
“It’s unbelievable that no one has been hurt because there were broken bottles everywhere.
“The beach is so beautiful and so near other hotels, it’s a shame our tourists have to witness all this.
“Hopefully, Government will find solutions to this filthy habit.
“Someone has to take charge because this has to stop.”
