Discipline will be a crucial element of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians’ defensive strategy as they prepare to face England tomorrow morning at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool, England.

In their opening Nations Championship fixture against Wales, the team showcased their lethal attacking prowess, but it was on defence where they were most vulnerable.

Interim head coach Senirusi Seruvakula emphasised that maintaining discipline will be key to keeping momentum in their must-win match against England.

“We need to be disciplined in our tackle areas and also in our breakdowns, so we need to keep the tackle low, so we are not penalised,” he explained.

“This was what hurt us last week and all those four tries from Wales were from penalties, so we have talked about it and how we are going to approach the game.”

He added that patience is essential to ensure discipline both in attack and defence.

With the team now midway through the first phase of their inaugural RNC campaign, Seruvakula has called on the Fijian diaspora in Europe to be the sixteenth man on the field as they chase their first victory of the tournament.

“It’s our second match and our second week together and it’s not going to be easy,” he said.

“We need the people back home and the Fijians around the UK to pray for us and come out in numbers and support us on Saturday (Sunday morning Fijian Time).”

Fiji’s last victory against England was on 26 August 2023, in the lead-up to the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

The Flying Fijians secured a historic 30-22 upset at Twickenham Stadium in London, marking their first-ever win against England.

With both teams having lost their opening RNC matches, a physical and high-stakes battle awaits tomorrow morning at 1.10am at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool.
