Minister for Women Lynda Tabuya is no longer a deputy party leader for The People’s Alliance party (PAP).

This was confirmed by PAP’s general secretary Usaia Waqatairewa in a statement released today saying The People’s Alliance Executive Council at its meeting yesterday, resolved, in the best interest of the party, that Ms Tabuya be removed as deputy party leader effective immediately.

Mr Waqatairewa said the Council thoroughly discussed and considered the recommendation of the People’s Management Committee in relation to the alleged sex and drug scandal involving Ms Tabuya while on an official trip to the Parliament of Victoria in Melbourne last year, from August 21-23, 2023.

Ms Tabuya was summoned to appear before a disciplinary sub-committee last month after a complaint was lodged against her by a member of the party.

“The People’s Executive Council particularly considered the severe and likely irreparable damage and disrepute that the scandal and the allegations surrounding it had brought to the party’s image and reputation,” Mr Waqatairewa said.

He said Ms Tabuya was informed immediately yesterday evening via the appropriate official party communication of the Executive Council’s resolution.
