Sydney 7s: Fijiana wins Challenge Trophy

IT IS not the result they want but the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side made a great turn around after missing out in the top eight battle of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Sydney, Australia.

The Saiasi Fuli-coached team displayed a courageous performance to defeat England 15-12 in the challenge trophy final to put a smile on the loyal Fijian fans at the Spotless Stadium.

After a side defeated China 12-0 in the semifinal the side have a mammoth task to face giant England.

Against China, Merewai Cumu and Merewalesi Rokouono scored for the team while Ana Maria Roqica converted one.

In the match against England, Tokasa Seniyasi, Lavenia Tinai and Asinate Savu scored a try each but former skipper Roqica was at her best with her solid defence in the match.

Tinai said the players showed full commitment and determinations in the final and she was proud of the players.
