Suva wins Futsal tourney, through to OFC Champions League

Suva Futsal defeated a defiant Nadi Futsal side 3-2 to win the Extra Supermarket Fiji National Futsal 2024, at the Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

Rajneel Singh, wearing the number three jersey, placed a try into the goal for the capital city side, advancing their side and leading at halftime.

After the break, both sides became involved in an intense pursuit for victory, however another goal by Singh extended Suva’s lead 2-0.

With the clock ticking to completion, Nadi was awarded a goal as the scoreline now stood at 2-1.

A further goal by Nadi thanks to Mohammed Shameem who swerved the ball into the goal, equalized the progress of the match.

Shortly after Shameem’s dashing goal, Filipe Baravilala of Suva fielded the final goal for Suva, extending the lead to 3-2.

Vivek Nadan, Suva’s coach, expressed appreciation for the win and revealed the team’s preparation coming into the final as well.

“We came into the competition confident that we will retain the title and it certainly wasn’t easy with the weather and in the slippery court but the boys stuck to the game plan and delivered us the victory,” Nadan said.

Meanwhile, their win at the futsal courts also qualified them for next year’s OFC Men’s Futsal Champions League.
