SUVA Zone primary schools athletics officials are working overtime to fully prepare 143 athletes for this year’s Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association National Chow Games.
The competition will be at the ANZ Stadium in Suva from November 15 to 16.
Fifteen zones from the Central, Northern and Western dvisions will compete in the annual event.
Two regional teams – Lano Wallis and Wallis & Futuna, have registered to compete.
Suva head coach Josefa Wise Namosimalua said since the Suva primary schools had merged into one zone instead of Suva One and Suva Two in past years, they hoped to be the mega force and the untouchables in the competition.
The Capital City outfit is expected to field the cream of their schools athletes to make a difference this year.
“Lautoka won the boys division last year and the Suva team will take the challenge this year,” Namosimalua said.
“Since the last nationals was in 2015, we have decided to combine our teams again this year to make a strong team for the games.”
He said their biggest challenge would come from teams from the West which comprised Ba, Nadi, Nadroga, Lautoka and former champion Ra.
“The Lautoka team and the teams from the West have training facilities, so they would give us a good run. We have some athletes who have been receiving special training by some top coaches. Those who won gold last year are hoping to win again this year.”
The competition is expected to feature the 4×400 metres relay for the first time.
