THE Suva Kaji Rugby Association is calling on sponsors to support its tournament, which is focused this year on spreading a strong anti-drug message to children and parents.

Association president Aporosa Tamani said their theme for 2025 is “Drug-Free Kids, Strong Team”, and they need help to share this message widely.

“We’re trying our best to put up our theme so that it attracts sponsors like big companies and ministries who can come on board and help Suva Kaji Rugby competition in advocating about these drugs, which is one of the big issues,” Tamani said.

He said many young people are being affected by drugs, and the tournament is a way to keep children active, focused and away from risky behavior.

“One of the ways to keep children busy is through activities like this, rather than them engaging in other risky things like drugs. We’re teaching them about drugs and the effects of it in our various schools,” he said.

The tournament which kicked off yesterday at the Saint Marcellin Primary School grounds will run for seven weeks.

23 primary schools are taking part this year, 21 from Suva and two from Lami, including Waiqanake District School, which is a new addition.

Children from under-9-14 are playing, and top players will be selected to represent Suva at the national Kaji Rugby competition later this year.

Teams from Vanua Levu and other parts of Fiji are expected to take part.

Tamani said the tournament not only promotes rugby but teaches life values like teamwork, discipline and respect.

He said they also need support with printing posters and pamphlets to raise awareness.

“Not only kids are coming every day. It’s also the parents and youths and we need something for them to see and understand the message,” he said.
