Suva narrowly secured a victory against Lautoka 28-21 in the second round of the Skipper Cup competition yesterday.
Lautoka head coach Peniona Ranitu said his message to his team in the second half was to get the ball wide and quick hands in the breakdown.
“We have young team and we got some senior and season players to try and gel them together and we hope to work on our weakness before our game against Macuata,” Ranitu said.
At halftime, Suva held a 6-0 lead, courtesy of two successful penalty kicks by flyhalf Enele Malele.
The defending Skipper Cup champions intensified their efforts in the second half, scoring two tries through Mosese Naiova and Iosefo Namoce. Malele successfully converted one try.
In the 70th minute, Malele added three more points with a penalty kick, followed by a try from Inia Tawalo, which Malele converted.
Lautoka made a comeback in the 66th minute, securing their first try through Freddy Ralulu.
Netava Nayacalevu’s conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
The game concluded with two rapid tries from Kelemeni Navucu, both converted by Nayacalevu.
