The Suva Rugby Union (SRU) says it has filed an appeal with the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) for labelling it non-compliant, thus ruling out its nominations for elections to the governing body’s board at next week’s annual general meeting.
SRU secretary Nemani Tuifagalele claimed the FRU was taking matters personally and requested those at Rugby House to act in a professional manner.
He also called on the FRU to assist unions in being compliant instead of “condemning us”.
“We are the members of FRU and they should be assisting us if we are stuck somewhere.”
The SRU and three other major unions had filed nominations for next week’s AGM but were earlier this week were told by the parent body that their candidates would not be considered because they (unions) were non-compliant.
He also called on the FRU to come out clean on the process involved in the payment of affiliation fees as practised by former CEO John O’Connor.
O’Connor chose not to comment on the matter. Calls made to Sorovaki yesterday remained unanswered.
Questions have been emailed to the FRU, but it remained unanswered when this edition went to press.
