Suva downs Lautoka to win national netball championship title

SUVA was crowned 2017 Punjas Digicel National Netball Championship winner after beating Lautoka 37-25 in the final at the National Netball Centre in Suva yesterday.

Coach Gabriel Qoro was the happiest man and dedicated the win to his players for the tremendous effort to win.

“It’s after three years we get to play against Lautoka in the final and I thank them for a good game and they really tested our players,” Qoro said.

“Lautoka having their own Baby Pearls reps gave us a good challenge in the first and second and third quarters but in the third and last quarter it’s when experience speaks for itself and that was where we were able to edge them because of the experience we have.

“For the girls, as expected they performed really well and what we planned to do was to play as a unit basically paid off and the result spoke for itself.

“Hats off to our national players who executed the game plan very well and hats off to them and our Baby Pearls who were part of the team.”

Nasinu came in at fourth spot while Suva White came in third and the runners-up were Lautoka while Suva Bluez walked away with their medals and a trophy.

Captain and national midcourt player Vaiti Waqatabu of Suva was awarded the best player.
