A pioneering subsidiary of Totoka Islands Ltd – Aquam Insula Pte Ltd has committed $50 million towards the sustainable development of remote areas in Fiji.
A statement from the company said Aquam Insula Pte Ltd was the creator of Fiji’s first artesian carbonated water product, AQUAM INSULA Sparkling Water which was launched in October 2022.
Highlighting its commitment to environmental sustainability and carbon neutrality which it showcases at every level of operation, the company said innovation was at the heart of Aquam Insula’s operations with their bottling plant being entirely powered by solar energy.
According to the statement the company chose glass, an eco-friendly material, for packaging, printed with environmentally neutral ink. It has also taken a step further in sustainability by shipping their products in locally produced hardwood crates, eliminating the need for additional packaging.
“These crates and empty bottles are returned to the company after use. In a nod to waste-free operations, the empty bottles are upcycled into building materials.
“Simultaneously, the crates are designed for endless reuse, requiring only minor repairs over time, thereby exemplifying the principles of a circular economy,” stated the company.
Meanwhile further displaying its commitment to sustainable practices, the company noted its recent contribution to the water taxation proposal that was incorporated into the government budget.
Founder and director of Totola Islands Ltd, Toralf Dittmann shared that as Aquam Insula was revolutionizing the beverage industry, the parent company continued its dedication to the integrated development of Fiji’s remote areas.
The statement said Aquam Insula Pte Ltd and Totoka Islands Ltd were exemplary leaders in sustainable business practices in Fiji, inspiring other companies with their dedication to environmental stewardship, renewable energy, and carbon neutrality.
Besides their sparkling water product, Aquam Insula also offers a still water option. Both variants are widely available at hotels, resorts, and supermarkets, catering to a diverse customer base.
