Tourism Fiji’s Super Week is all set to feature a half-day ‘Sustainability Expo’ today to highlight sustainable solutions for tourism in the country.
A recent statement stated global travellers today seek eco-friendly and wellness focused experiences when travelling to oversees destinations and Fiji’s tourism industry is taking meaningful steps to embrace sustainability as a core responsibility within the industry.
“The 2025 Tourism Super Week will feature a ‘sustainability expo’ aimed at encouraging environmentally responsible practices and opportunities across the sector,” the statement noted.
“Supported by Tourism Fiji and the Australian Government’s Market Development Facility (MDF), the half-day event will bring together sustainability focused businesses and organisations specialising in renewable energy, waste management, sustainable transport, and climate resilience solutions.”
MDF Fiji country director, Kelera Cavuilati said “MDF is delighted to support this important initiative, which aligns with the government’s commitment to sustainability through the National Tourism Sustainability Framework.”
“By bringing together key players in sustainability, we hope to support MSMEs and the wider tourism sector to adopt practices that will not only protect their livelihoods but also contribute to the long-term resilience of Fiji’s tourism industry while safeguarding its ecosystems.”
The half day expo is also expected to provide tourism operators, resort owners and other stakeholders an opportunity to explore practical strategies that improve operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
Tourism Fiji chief executive officer Brent Hill said the expo provided a valuable opportunity for tourism stakeholders to connect with leading experts and explore innovative solutions that can enhance their operations while contributing to a more sustainable future for Fiji.
“Fiji’s natural beauty is the foundation of our tourism industry and safeguarding it through sustainable practices is essential. Sustainability is not just about environmental and social responsibility, it is also about ensuring the long-term success of businesses,” Mr Hill said
Tourism is a key pillar of Fiji’s economy, but it remains vulnerable to the challenges posed by climate change and to safeguard the industry’s future, investment in climate adaptation and mitigation by the private sector and landowners have become more crucial than ever.
