THE Coral Coast Board Riders Club received a major boost this week.
Californian surf company SECKENCE gave eight new surfboards to help the underprivileged surfers.
The boards, as well as other accessories including board covers, were handed over to the club’s representative and local mentor Andrew Brown.
He has also been supporting the local surfers and stand up paddle boarders in the area for many years.
SECKENCE representative, team rider and former windsurfing world champion Tony Philp did the official hand-over of the equipment at the Beachouse along Korolevu last week.
Philp said the boards were a token of the passion shown for the sport of surfing.
He piled praises on the stand up paddle boarding by the surfers in the Coral Coast area.
He said if given a fair chance, they had the potential to become world-class surfers one day.
The gift was a timely boost of encouragement for the surfers and stand up paddle boarders.
They are currently training for the International Surfing Association Stand Up Paddle World Championships at Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi from November 12-20.
