Fiji’s hosting of the World Surf League Championship Tour at Cloudbreak generated more than $18.5 million in brand exposure and direct economic activity in 2025, Parliament was told yesterday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka said the event delivered $15.95m in global brand exposure for Fiji and $2.63m in direct local economic impact.

The Government contributes about $2.2m annually to host the event, which has been secured for Fiji through 2029.

Mr Gavoka said the 2025 event attracted about 4250 spectators and 125 athletes, coaches and staff, with spending benefiting local contractors, hotels, Fiji Airways, catering, transport and other businesses.

The event also generated 7.7 million views across live and on-demand platforms, while 657 branded social media posts produced more than 125.7 million impressions and 70.9 million video views.

More than 4000 media placements across 30 countries further promoted Fiji as a global surfing destination.

Mr Gavoka said the partnership also provided benefits to communities around Cloudbreak. A surf tower built by the World Surf League has been handed over to the communities of Nabila and Momi, allowing them to use and potentially commercialise the facility for filming and tourism activities.

Seventeen environmental and community initiatives were also delivered during the 2025 event, including youth surf programs, coastal clean-ups and water safety training.

Mr Gavoka said the event helped position Fiji as a premium, sustainable tourism destination while spreading visitor spending beyond the traditional peak holiday period.
