FOUR former football players will receive financial assistance as part of the 2026 RC Manubhai/Apco Coatings Veterans Tournament this weekend.
The Fiji Football Association will present $500 education vouchers to each of the four deserving former players before the first Extra Battle of the Giants semi-final between Suva and Ba.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said the initiative was part of the association’s commitment to supporting former players beyond their playing days.
He said the veteran’s tournament was not organised for profit, with sponsorship and registration fees channelled back into the welfare and wellbeing of the former players.
“This year again Abdul Mananan and his team will be identifying four very deserving former players who need some financial assistance for their children’s educational needs,” Yusuf said.
Yusuf said the association had provided the $500 vouchers to four veterans annually for the past seven years.
The initiative has been supported by RC Manubhai and Apco Coatings, which have been involved with the veteran’s tournament since it began 12 years ago.Yusuf acknowledged the companies for their continued contribution towards supporting former players and their families.
He said the assistance was particularly important for veterans who had limited means to support the education of their children or grandchildren.
The RC Manubhai/Apco Coatings Veterans Tournament will be held this weekend alongside the BOG program.
