Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh today publicly scolded his acting Permanent Secretary, Reshmi Kumari at an event in Lautoka.

Speaking at the handing over of a community report on supporting adaptation work in the sugar industry held at the Sugar Cane Growers Council hall, Mr Singh said he was upset with the media for not turning up to the Lautoka mill 2025 crushing season opening on Wednesday.

“I will tell you very strongly, I was very upset yesterday with my acting permanent secretary sitting here,” Mr Singh said.

“I was to speak at the opening of the FSC sugar mill, and I expected the press to be there and the message I got was that she said, ‘the press should not be there’.

“This is not right.

“I am talking to you Reshmi. You should facilitate those things to happen.

“Because people should know what I am speaking about in every industry, the message should be very clear about this industry because this industry has been failing.

“If you do not give the right message at the right time then do not expect the farmers to know what’s happening.”
