Sugar Cane Growers Council welcomes “relief” cane payment

THE Sugar Cane Growers Council has welcomed the fourth cane payment for farmers preparing for the new crushing season.

The fourth cane payment of $17.03 per tonne was confirmed by the Sugar Industry Tribunal today bringing much relief to cane growers in the west and northern divisions.

Council CEO Vimal Dutt welcomed the final payment which takes the final earnings of farmers to $86.66 per tonne for the 2024 crushing season.

“It was a long-awaited cane payment,” said Mr Dutt.

“A lot of farmers were anticipating the payment to be made later in the month, but we are pleased that it was given a week early.

“So that should bring some relief to farmers as they prepare for the new season.”

In a statement, the Tribunal the announced the net share of cane proceeds received and receivable by growers as of April 30, 2025 stands at $115,427,843, equivalent to $86.66 per tonne.

To date, FSC has paid a total of $69.63 per tonne, comprised of $43.06 per tonne for delivery payment, $14.35 per tonne for second payment and $12.22 per tonne on the third cane payment.
