Strong wind alert issued for parts of Fiji

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a strong wind alert for several parts of the country as fresh to strong southeast winds are expected to develop later this week.

The alert covers the Yasawa Group, southern Bua, Udu Point, coastal areas of Ra-Rakiraki, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and its surrounding smaller islands.

According to the weather office, the strong southeast winds are forecast to develop from Wednesday, 15 July, before gradually shifting to easterly winds from Sunday, 19 July.

The Fiji Meteorological Service is urging residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions by securing loose outdoor items and exercising caution while travelling, particularly in exposed coastal and maritime areas.

Members of the public are also advised to monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service as conditions evolve.
