The Annual Pro versus Amateur Challenge teed off yesterday at Denarau Golf Club, with the professionals taking a commanding 4-1 lead after the morning session.

The amateurs, determined to break the pros’ three-year winning streak, now face an uphill battle heading into the afternoon rounds.

The only amateur victory came from the duo of Shakil Pillay and Rizwan Mohd, who secured a 2-up win over Rajiv Prasad and Munesh from the Fiji PGA.

However, the professionals dominated the other matches. Dinesh Chand and Viliame Sorowale proved too strong for Zavir Khan and Kavitesh Prasad, closing out the match 5-4.

Tomasi Tuivuna and Waisake Vati defeated Rohit Chandra and Jeral Sharma by 2-up, while Roneel Prakash and Abid also claimed a 2-up victory over Nitulesh Mali and Praveer Chand. Vikrant Chandra and Lotawa Delana rounded off the morning session with a 3-up win over James and Asish Chand.

With a comfortable lead, the professionals, led by Tomasi Tuivuna, will look to maintain their dominance in the remaining matches.

The professional team features experienced names such as Roneel Prakash, Vikrant Chandra, Viliame Sorowale, Waisake Vati, Arvind Lal, Lotawa Delana, Praneel Prasad, Rajiv Prasad, and Dinesh Chand.

The amateurs, eager to turn things around, include Asish Chand, Nitulesh Mali, Rohit Chandra, Isei Waqa, Jeral Sharma, Alvin Sharma, Praveer Chand, Zavir Khan, Rizwan Mohd, and Kavitesh Prasad.

The afternoon session was underway when this edition went to press, with the amateurs hoping to stage a fightback and the professionals aiming to extend their dominance.
