Pre-event favourites stamped their authority early at the 2026 Coca-Cola Games Championship, delivering strong performances on the opening day at HFC Bank Stadium yesterday.
In the girls division, defending champions Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School wasted no time asserting themselves at the top of the standings.
Close behind were Adi Cakobau School, who also impressed with consistent results across multiple events.
The boys division produced a surprise twist, with Queen Victoria School emerging as early leaders heading into the evening session.
Their performances set the tone for what is shaping up to be a highly competitive competition.
However, day one was not solely dominated by traditional powerhouses.
Several emerging schools made their presence felt, adding excitement and depth to the championship.
Notable performances came from Dreketi Central, Sigatoka Valley, Tokaimalo Secondary School, Bua Central, and Nilsen High School, all of whom celebrated podium finishes and memorable moments.
With such an exciting start, the championship remains wide open.
Day two promises even more action, with a total of 30 gold medals up for grabs,13 in the girls division and 17 in the boys.
Events will begin with field competitions at 8.45am, followed by the 800m heats at 9.30am.
The day will conclude with the highly anticipated 4x100m relay finals.
