Aspen Medical states it has no issues with its union workers and has strongly refuted claims by the Construction Energy, Timber, Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) implying that there has been no dialogue between both organisations.

In October 2024, CETWUF was asked to share workplace concerns reported by members, said a statement from Aspen Medical.

CETWUF subsequently raised issues regarding delayed overtime and public holiday payments, which the hospital was already addressing.

“CETWUF has been informed about this pending clarification on seven occasions,” said Aspen Medical’s Executive Director Culture and Performance Mr Edwin Aisake.

“We want to assure the public and all stakeholders that appropriate measures will be implemented to ensure the uninterrupted provision of healthcare services at both our hospitals should a strike occur.”

“The well-being of our patients and our team is always our top priority.”

Aspen Medical said it is seeking from relevant government stakeholders the interpretation of certain provisions in its contract with the government concerning workers that transitioned from the government following its operational takeover of the two hospitals.

“Once we receive these clarifications we will engage further with the unions, including CETWUF.”
