THE Naitasiri women’s team turned on the pressure to defeat Nadroga 27-5 after taking a 17-5 lead into halftime, in round nine of the Subrail Marama Cup championship at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.
Captain and half back of the winning side Maraia Roravudi said the team’s effort throughout the match was a key factor in securing the win.
“I thank the girls for the hard work and teamwork they put in, giving us the victory today,” Roravudi said.
Despite the adverse weather conditions Roravudi shared the team came with one goal-to execute their game plan and not lose hope. Without a doubt the team were able to secure a convincing round nine clash victory.
“We saw the weather conditions today and that did not make us lose hope, I told the team we just needed to execute our game plan,” she added.
She said the team would need to improve its communication before the next round.
“Communication is one area we need to work on for the next round, and we need to be consistent in our teamwork on the field,” she said.
Naitasiri controlled the match for long periods and built on its halftime advantage to finish with a 22-point victory over Nadroga.
The captain also acknowledged the tough competition Nadroga gave them during the match.
“We also thank Nadroga for the tough encounter they gave us.”
Roravudi also acknowledged the supporters who turned out for the match and backed the team throughout the competition.
She thanked them for their continued support in every round, saying their presence had been important to the team.
The win gives Naitasiri further momentum heading into the next round, where the side will look to build on its performance while addressing communication within the team.
