State withdraws charge

A CHARGE laid against former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation CEO Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and the company’s current chief financial officer, Vimlesh Sagar, related to the purchase of a $207,240 3.0L Volkswagen Touareg has been discontinued.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and Mr Sagar had their case called before Chief Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola for mention to check on any pretrial issues, however, prosecutor Lilian Mausio then made an application for Nolle Prosequi against the two men.

She said the application was made after re-evaluating the men’s charges.

While the duo was discharged, they will return to court today for a separate charge before Magistrate Charles Ratakele.

In this case, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum is charged with abuse of office for gain and an alternative charge of general dishonesty causing a loss. Mr Sagar is charged with general dishonesty causing a loss.
