THE State is seeking to revoke the bail of a 23-year-old charged with setting fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute on April 7 last year after he was prosecuted for two offences.
At the High Court in Suva last week, Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid told Justice Thushara Rajasinghe the accused, Emosi Tikoicina, had breached his bail conditions, one of which was he should not commit another offence while on bail.
However, the accused was recently prosecuted by the lower court on a charge of theft and burglary.
Mr Zunaid said the accused, in both cases, was handed six-month suspended sentences to be served concurrently.
But he acknowledged that Mr Tikoicina has consistently appeared for his cases in court.
The matter was called for hearing on Wednesday on the State’s revocation of his bail application, however, defence lawyer Paula Gade is yet to file a response.
Mr Gade told the court he was to travel to Tailevu to receive instructions from his client yesterday and asked for 14 days to file a response.
Mr Gade has been directed to file his response by May 29 while Mr Zunaid will file his reply seven days after.
Justice Rajasinghe will then hear both parties on June 13.
Mr Tikoicina’s trial will commence on August 4.
