THE Nadroga football team staged a stunning comeback to defeat Suva 3-2 in an electrifying Extra Premier League clash at the HFC Bank Stadium yesterday, securing their first win of the season.

Suva started strong, with Gagame Feni scoring twice in the first half to give the capital side an early 2-0 lead.

However, Nadroga responded in style as Siotame Kubu, William Valentine and Sailimone Raronokula found the net before halftime to turn the game around.

Despite Suva’s relentless attacking efforts in the second half, Nadroga’s defence held firm denying their opponents any chance of an equaliser.

Head coach Garfil Coster said the team used recent criticism as motivation to step up their game.

“We had a lot of negative criticisms coming into this match and that really motivated the boys,” Coster said.

“I told them to use that as fuel. Whether we’re one goal down or two goals down, we must maintain composure and fight back.”

Coster also emphasised the need for discipline after Nadroga received one yellow card in this match.

“We’ve been getting too many yellow cards and today (yesterday) was no different.

“We need to be careful and avoid giving away unnecessary free kicks,” he added.

With this victory, Nadroga moves to sixth place four points while Suva remains fifth with five points.
