STAKEHOLDERS in the tourism industry are bracing themselves for inclement weather in the coming days.
Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) president Dixon Seeto said this was not the first weather anomaly Fiji had experienced.
“The resort and hotel managements are well prepared and we are keeping track with all the meteorological reports,” he said.
“Our main concern is the safety of our guests and their comfort and to ensure they are looked after.”
Mr Seeto said they were also keeping up to date with weather reports for properties in outer islands.
“If it really deteriorates, we will shift them before the marine department issues any ‘stop sailing’ notice, so we are liaising with them (department) so we know what planning we need to do.”
He said the FHTA Secretariat was also keeping all its members informed about the weather patterns.
Mr Seeto said they were also part of the Tourism Response Team under the chairmanship of Tourism Ministry permanent secretary Shaheen Ali.
Lauren Mossop from Nanuya Island Resort said heavy rain was experienced yesterday.
“We are taking all precautions because guest safety is paramount and we are liaising with transfer operators,” she said.
Yasawa Island Resort and Spa general manager James McCaan said they had experienced periodic heavy rain and gusty winds.
