ST Vincent College winger Salote Loganimoce says her side is ready for a tough battle when they face Nasinu Secondary School in the Raluve under-16 final at HFC Stadium tomorrow.
The 15-year-old from Waibasaga, Wainimala, Naitasiri, played a key role in St Vincent’s College’s dramatic 12-5 semi-final victory over defending champions Sigatoka Methodist College at Churchill Park last week.
The result ended Sigatoka Methodist’s title defence and ensured a new champion will be crowned in the Raluve U16 competition this year.
Loganimoce produced a moment of brilliance when it mattered most, scoring the decisive try in the dying moments to seal victory for St Vincent’s College.
She said the team was looking forward to the final and had prepared well for the challenge.
“Looking forward to the final. I know it will be a good game and we have prepared well,” Loganimoce said.
St Vincent’s College had to dig deep in the semi-final after falling behind but lifted its intensity in the second half and scored two quick tries to turn the match around.
Loganimoce then delivered the decisive blow late in the match, keeping her composure when the pressure was at its highest.
She said scoring the winning try was the only thing on her mind when she received the ball.
“I’m so happy and when I held that ball, I knew I just had to score that try,” she said.
“I was confident and I thank God for the strength and courage to be able to win it.”
With the semi-final victory behind them, Loganimoce believes St Vincent’s College has the momentum and confidence needed heading into tomorrow’s final.
However, she knows Nasinu Secondary School will provide another tough challenge as both teams battle for the Raluve U16 crown.
For St Vincent’s College, the goal is now simple finish the job and walk away as the new champions.
