FORMER Sydney Roosters head of Athletic Wellbeing and Education, Damon Spooner has been announced as the new general manager of the Kaiviti Silktails.
Spooner said in his new role, it would give him a good opportunity to help build a strong professional club culture, partnered with established corporate organisations to build an elite pathway for Fijian players and staff in the rugby league industry.
“The club’s values and vision align with my own and when approached if I would come to the Kaiviti Silktails, it was not a hard decision,” said Spooner.
According to a statement, Spooner will spear head a new team off the field that includes newcomers in Kemueli Salu (team welfare), Vilimaina Tuivaga (assistant physiotherapist), Vanavasa Niuqila (lead strength and conditioning coach), Timoci Duve (assistant coach), Merioni Tuinanuya (football administration) and Joe Kobanalagi (assistant strength and conditioning coach).
Silktails executive director Stephen Driscoll said Spooner was a highly respected figure within the game in Australia and in New Zealand where he worked with the NZ rugby league and Maori All Star male and female set ups.
“He will be a wonderful asset for not only us but for the game of rugby league in Fiji,” said Driscoll.
