ABOUT 126 students and teachers from special and inclusive schools across Fiji created history by singing at the Methodist Church Conference choir competition for the first time.
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro said their participation was a significant step forward for special and inclusive education in Fiji.
He said the competition would provide students with an opportunity to showcase their talents, build confidence and participate meaningfully in the wider community.
Mr Radrodro acknowledged the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma for creating the opportunity, as well as the Fiji Council of Special and Inclusive Educators, the Fiji Disabled Persons Federation, parents, teachers, school leaders and other organisations supporting the students.
He commended the students and teachers for their commitment and preparation, noting that they had been practising separately at their respective schools and coordinating their performances through a Viber group before coming together as one choir.
Mr Radrodro said the students’ participation demonstrated that, when given the right opportunities and support, they could achieve and contribute meaningfully.
“I hope the performance will be the beginning of the Fiji Council of Special and Inclusive Educators choir and create more opportunities for students to participate in singing, drama, dance, poetry and other creative activities,” he said.
He wished the students well in the competition and encouraged them to enjoy the experience and take pride in representing their schools and the special and inclusive education community.
