THE Solomon Islands football team will test the Vodafone Fiji team in the first of the two international friendly matches at the ANZ Stadium in Suva tonight.
The Solomon Islands players are known for their skills and deceptive runs whenever they played Fiji in the past. The side is now coached by Spanish Felipe Vega- Arango Alonso who had been coaching the side for the past two months.
Alonso said he does not have any idea as how Fiji plays and what they will throw against them in the match.
“We are looking forward to the match.
“We had been preparing for the past two months for this international matches. It may be just friendly matches, but both teams will be playing for their countries.
“Fiji and Solomon Islands can get something out of the match,” he said at their Elixir Apartment yesterday.
“We have played a couple of matches against local teams back home, but it is not the same playing players from another country.
“I do not want to see any of the players getting hurt or injured from both the teams. I got an email from the Fiji coach (Christopher Gamel) and we agreed to play two matches so that the players could get some playing times.”
Fiji’s recent win over Solomon Islands was in the OFC Nations Cup when they defeated them 1-0.
“It will be a good match and we are thankful to the Fiji federation and the coach for making this happen,” he added.
“I haven’t seen them play and its usually difficult to play against a team you never know and never seen them play. The only thing I want is for players to do the right job in the match.”
The match kicks off at 7pm at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
